Overcoming Behavior Problems
|
Behavior problems are defined as: any behaivor that interfers with learning, socialization or daily living activities. While behavior problems are often an issue with typically develping children they present an especially difficult challenge for parents of children with disabilities.
Rather than punish a child for what he or she does not know Behaivoral Building Blocks takes a proactive approach by teaching skills that the child can use to effectively communicate. At Behavioral Building Blocks behavior problems are addressed with the primary focus on positive reinforcement.
As with any behavior change intervention clinicians at Behavioral Building Blocks begin with determining the function of the target behavior before developing individualized plans for each child. Behavior intervention plans prescribed by Behavioral Building Blocks are monitored through outcome data and ongoing analysis. This process ensures the child will develop long lasting communication, social, and daily living skills so that the behavior intervention can eventually be faded. As the child's skill level increases the need for interventions targeting negative behavior decreases.
Because treatment is individualized the children serviced by Behavioral Building Blocks are not arbirtrary tied to a plan that may not effectively eliminate the target behavior.
